Adding Metadata

Now that you know the basics of Metadata, we'll show you how to add it to every page on your site.

On the Shelf at the bottom of the page click on "Pages", a list of all the pages you have created will display. 

If you hover over the list, a small gear icon and an arrow will appear on the right side of each page name. Click on the gear icon to access the menu.

Click on "Page Settings" 

A small window will pop up, click on "SEO Settings" to display the full list of options.

Three editable fields will appear. The first one is for the Page Title. Here, you can add or edit the name of the page. It is common to also include the business name and city either with a slash or a pipe separating the different title elements.

On the second field, you can add or edit Meta Keywords, which are the words related to your business plus the city or cities you want to target. For example, if your business is a bakery located in Lorton VA, some options could be: bakery in Lorton VA, bread in Lorton VA and so on. Every keyword and target must be separated by a comma. If you add City and State, make sure you don't separate these by commas. So, the correct way to add the Meta Keywords would be like the previous example.

Finally, the Meta Description field lets you add or edit the description that is used for your page in search engine results. Here, you want to make sure that the description is no longer than 175 characters and has your business name, some keywords and your city.

Once you've finish the steps above, click "Update" click, then click outside of the pop-up to close it. Finally in the editing shelf click "Publish" to make your changes live.
